Under the direction of the Manager, Summer Youth Work Experience (SYWE), our Employment Specialist/Job Coach is responsible for providing direct service to transition youth as a job coach at various employment sites, serving as an instructor in order to assist students in gaining the skills and information necessary for success in their summer and future work experiences, completing necessary case note and report documentation and serving as Lead Job Coach at the various work sites.

Responsibilities

1. Develop employment plans with program participants based on client self-assessment to recognize strengths/skills and weaknesses/liabilities/barriers and personal employment goals.   
2. Prepare students for employment through on-the-job and classroom instruction.  
3. Develop career exploration and job readiness training materials.  
4. In coordination with program manager, present classroom instruction to prepare students for employment including resume preparation, cover letter writing and interviewing skill practice.  
5. Develop follow up plan with students in summer work settings.  
6. Serve as lead job coach at employment sites to include completing job task analyses, teaching job tasks, assisting with adjustment to work environment, assisting with requests for reasonable accommodations, providing instruction about appropriate work behaviors, evaluating work tolerance, cultivating critical job keeping skills and improving social skills.  
7. Provide job coaching, on-site troubleshooting and problem analysis to program participants.  
8. Document student progress, required reports and other management information as required in order to assess the effectiveness of the student’s summer employment experience.  
9. Set up and coordinate informational interviews for program participants.  
10. Develop and foster positive working relationships with all agency departments to include learning and executing departmental procedures, policies, and functions.
    11. Provide safe environment for clients, utilizing appropriate techniques and methods, sighted guide and other technologies.   
12. Learn and follow established safety practices.  
13. Be positive, energetic and a team player; serve as peer role model for clients.

Required Skills and Experience

+ Bachelors Degree in education, special education, youth transition, vocational counseling or related field.  
+ Previous experience in job coaching and job seeking skills working with youth and young adults transitioning from high school to work.  
+ Demonstrate knowledge of employment market trends, local job market, employers’ hiring practices and job opportunities for high school and college students with visual impairments and/or other disabilities.
+ Knowledge of job seeking skills and placement for high school students, college students with visual impairments.  
+ Demonstrate ability and skill in using computers, Microsoft software and the Internet.  
+ Demonstrate knowledge of medical, psychological and social issues related to visual impairments and other disabilities.  
+ Understanding of or the ability to learn the application of adaptive technology aids in the employment of individuals with visual impairments. 
+ Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Ability to handle fast-paced environment with many different tasks at one time.
 + Ability to assess client skill levels in the workplace.
 + Work long periods of time and or hours that do not conform to a set schedule. Ability to do frequent local travel into various community settings.
