We are looking for a competent Job Coach to help clients enhance their strengths and improve their job skills. You may work with seasoned workers who have a recent disability who want guidance for career development or persons with a disability who need assistance in the workplace. Under the supervision of Manager of Employment Services, the Job Coach works directly with clients in a training or placement job-site to help them to learn the specific requirements of the job; learn work-related activities and requirements, rules; and learn appropriate work-related (including social) behaviors when dealing with supervisors and co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Uses structured intervention techniques to help the client learn to perform job tasks to the employer's specifications and to learn the interpersonal skills necessary to be a successful worker at the job site and in related community contacts.  
  • Provides client with immediate feedback, assistance, and follow-up from the support person. 
  • Utilizes professional communication skills as liaison between client and employer. 
  • Reports client progress to his/her supervisor at the work site, as well as to CSC supervisor. 
  • Evaluates and monitors the client’s performance and progress.
  • Begins to fade as the client becomes more proficient and requires less job coach intervention.
  • Performs activities of advocacy, job task analysis, developing necessary job accommodation, assisting with appropriate work behaviors and interpersonal skills and/or reinforcing travel training/orientation and mobility skills as needed or necessary. 
  • Completes required reports and statistics, including Job Coach Report, timesheets and expense reports and turns in at specified times. 
  • Works as required and requested in conjunction with department staff to ensure that agency, CARF, and other standards are met within areas of responsibility. 
  • Attends department and agency meetings and, upon request, attends and participates in professional development workshops. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: High School graduate 

Experience: Minimum of one year previous experience working with persons with disabilities; prefer experience working with persons with blindness or visual impairment 

Skills: 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in working with diverse populations. 
  • Ability to read a variety of written materials aloud to client. Demonstrated skill in giving and receiving verbal instructions and information.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers to produce reports (Word documents) and communicated via email. 
  •  Communicating with clients to understand their goals and ambitions. 
  • Ability to develop effective job coaching and employment plans. 
  • Assist client to discover and overcome their personal barriers and to set goals.
Physical: 
  • Lifting up to 30 pounds. 
  • This position entails daily community travel; must have access to his or her own transportation. 
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate client coaching needs. While performing the duties of this job the employee is: Regularly required to talk and hear while communicating face-to-face and by telephone.
  • Required to use hand to type on a computer keyboard, handle objects and paperwork; 
  • Frequently required to sit, stand and bend at the knee and waist and walk.
  • Required to reach and hold on to items at chest level or reach above the shoulder.
  • Must be able to visually read handwritten materials without adaptive equipment.
  • Must be available to work extended hours as needed. May require some travel.
