Under the direction of the Director of Children and Young Adult Services and assigned program staff, assists in implementing operations of the Summer Youth Work Experience program.

Responsibilities

1. Provide safe environment for clients, utilizing appropriate techniques and methods, sighted guide and other technologies.

2. Complete required logs, documentation and statistics according to protocol.

3. Attend program meetings and all staff meetings or trainings.

4. Learn and follow established safety practices.

5. Be positive, energetic and a team player; serve as peer role model for clients.

6. Communicate verbally and in writing observations of and interactions with clients

7. Carry out the goals established in the client’s individual training plan in conjunction with department policies and procedures in order to promote the client’s maximum independent functioning with daily living skills, participation in community &/or work environments, and social/recreational activities.

8. Develop and foster positive working relationships with all agency departments. 

9. Perform all other duties as specified by supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: Bachelor degree or Junior/Senior status in college with focus in special education, education, rehabilitation, social work or related field

Experience: Minimum of one-year work experience in human services setting and/or relevant college level coursework and experience with special needs populations

Skills: Ability to foster independence in clients. Ability to work with young adult clients who have blindness/vision impairments and other disabilities. Ability to relate to and motivate young adults.  Excellent interpersonal skills.  Computer literacy in Outlook, e-mail and Microsoft Office. Complete and pass a background check. Ability to adapt to fast-paced environment. Good verbal and written skills. Ability to work as team member. Prefer person with valid Ohio driver’s license in good standing.

Physical:               Required to assist with projects that require standing, squatting, and lifting, filing, sitting for long periods. Ability to stand, bend, stoop and reach in order to perform specific responsibilities. Ability to lift 30 pounds. Assist clients with wheelchair transfers and other mobility-related assistance.  Ability to work varied hours, as required, including days, evenings and weekends. Scheduled work week may include up to forty (40) hours per week. Sunday through Saturday, day and evening hours.  Arrive at the agreed time, ready to work.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Lift up to 30 pounds.
2. Assist with client wheelchair transfers and other activities of daily living.
3. Step, sit, stretch, stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach.
4. Perform repetitive motion activities.
5. Read computer screens and printed materials
6. Complete computer and written reports including statistics, expenses, sales, and inventories. 
7. Work days, evenings and weekends 
8. Provide written and oral communication for letters, reports, and requests
9. Utilize basic Microsoft Office applications including Outlook.
