Under the direction of the Director of Children & Young Adult Services, the Residence Assistant is responsible for ensuring the safety of residents and carrying out assigned duties during night shift hours. The Residence Center Assistant is on duty from 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. as scheduled.

Responsibilities

1. Provides general supervision of residents in the Residence Center between the hours of 11:00 p.m.-700 a.m.
 2. Is available for assistance when required and appropriate as the Residence Center population may require.
 3. Provide observational oversight of residents’ special management needs as requested by the residents' case manager, i.e., blood glucose monitoring, filling syringes, observing while taking medication, etc. 
 4. Responds to emergencies as required and documents incident appropriately; reports safety hazards and maintenance concerns.
 5. Proficient in use of all Residence Center "shut offs", setting alarms and disarming building. Contacts facilities/maintenance as needed for assistance and to report problems.
 6. Completes, maintains, forwards and files all required reports, logs, statistics, etc. 
 7. Able to listen and understand and be flexible and open-minded in responding to resident needs and concerns. 
 8.  Provide agency and program staff, as needed, with accurate and timely information concerning the environment of the Residence Center via reports and meetings. 
9. Assist as required in emergencies. 
10. Take appropriate action to protect health, safety and rights of residents. 
11. Provide safe environment for clients, utilizing appropriate techniques and methods, sighted guide and other technologies. 
12. Learn and follow established safety practices. 
13. Be positive, energetic and a team player; serve as peer role model for clients.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.  

Experience: Minimum of one-year work experience in human services setting and/or relevant college level coursework.  Prefer experience with special needs populations.

Skills: Knowledge of and adherence to commonly accepted professional and ethical standards. Excellent communication skills.  Ability to be self directed.  Ability to be flexible.  Ability to completely handle a variety of emergencies, i.e., medical, building evacuation, alarms, etc. Ability to be a member of a professional team.   Ability to use email and various software and computer applications.  Maintains cooperative working relationships with other agency personnel. Maintain confidentiality. Serve as positive role model for students. Good communication skills in order to provide verbal and written reports as required.  Complete and pass a background check.

Physical: Must have physical stamina to work nightshift hours. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs; bend, stand, sit, walk up and down stairs, stoop and reach.
